Buying & Choosing

Which retro gaming console should I choose to start with?

A €35-€60 pocket or handheld model handles all 8/16-bit classics. Our buying guide helps you choose in 4 simple questions.

What's the difference between a €50 and a €150 console?

Budget determines power. Entry-level handles 8/16-bit (NES, SNES, GBA), mid-range adds PS1 and N64, premium emulates PSP and Dreamcast with an OLED screen and longer battery life.

Pod or mod: which format to start with?

The controller if comfort is a priority (long couch sessions), the handheld if mobility is a priority (train, bed). Both handle the same entry-level games.

Usage & Gaming

Is it really plug and play?

Yes. The SD card is already in the console; the OS boots directly to your game library. You turn it on, choose your game, and play. No computer, no settings needed.

What games can I play?

NES, SNES, Game Boy, GBA, Mega Drive, Neo Geo, and up to PS1, N64, or PSP on premium models. Each product page specifies the emulated systems and compatibility level.

Do you have to set up an emulator yourself?

No. The emulator (RetroArch and co.) is already installed and pre-configured on the SD card. You launch your games directly from the library.

Can I play on my TV?

Yes, via the HDMI output on compatible models, or with a plug-and-play arcade machine designed for multi-player big-screen gaming.

Delivery, Warranty & After-Sales Service

What is the real battery life?

It depends on the model's battery. The 3,000–3,200 mAh consoles (R36S, R36 Ultra, R50S) are rated for 4 to 6 hours of play; the R36 Max, with 4,000 mAh, reaches 6 to 8 hours. Those figures come from the manufacturer datasheets: real-world battery life depends on the system emulated, screen brightness and volume. A round of NES draws far less than a PlayStation or PSP title.
