The R36H is held like a gamepad, so it spends a lot of its time lying flat on a table, a sofa or a desk. That is where it collects dust in the seams and fine scratches across the back.

The moulded silicone case closes off the exposed areas and gives the chassis a soft surface that holds onto your hand. It is washable: when it gets dirty, take it off, rinse it in warm water, put it back. The console's own shell stays like new underneath.
